Building an Effective Routine that Works for You & Your Goals

This can be one of the most important ways to keep yourself on track. A routine can help you take full control of your day and ensure you feel successful and accomplished on a day-to-day basis by providing structure.

To build a routine that works for you and your lifestyle there are some important things to consider such as your priorities, goals, time and preparation.

Priority

The first question you should ask yourself when creating your routine is, what do I want to prioritize, what is important to me, and why is this important to me? I would start by structuring your routine around your priorities so that you know for sure you will be able to accomplish these priorities on a day-to-day basis.

For example: if getting to the gym is a priority you can set aside a time where you know that getting to the gym will not be an issue.

Goals

The next consideration would be your goals. Is the routine you are creating reflective of your goals as a person, and if not how can you structure your routine to allow you to work towards your goals in the most effective way? For some, this may include scheduling a daily allotted time for whatever that goal may be.

Time

That leads us into the next consideration which is time, we all have the same 24 hours in our day, how can we maximize the time we are given? A routine can allow you to value your time more, and help you understand how you want to spend your time. A routine can increase your productivity and decrease your stress because you will be using your time more effectively. So it is important to ask yourself, how would I like to spend my time, am I maximizing my time to achieve my goals?

Preparation

Lastly, are you prepared? One of the most important ways to stay on track is to be prepared. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail. Once you have considered your priorities, goals and timeline, now it’s time to think about what things you can have prepared to keep yourself organized, for example, should you meal prep some meals for your week ahead. Feeling prepared can help you feel less stressed, and take the guesswork out of your day.

Building a routine that works for you and your lifestyle can be challenging at first but can be one of the most optimal ways to take control of your days so you can make the most out of every day.
